In the timetable for the traditional transition from childhood to adolescence to adulthood, young people complete their high school education, may continue their education by attending college or completing specialized school or training, enter the labor force, marry, and become parents.

Teen fathers enter the labor market earlier and initially earn more money than do other males, but by the time teen fathers reach their mid-20's, they earn less.[1]

A study of teen fathers both before and after they become parents found they differed significantly from their peers – they were less likely to see themselves as being in control of their lives, both before and after they became parents.[2]
